Cookie Policy

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Bawcro Asbestos uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website.

Apart from the cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site, we only set cookies once you have given us permission, with two exceptions: our regional pages include an embedded Google map, and pages with a video embed it from YouTube. Both cause Google to set its own cookies as soon as the page loads, before you have made any cookie choice and regardless of what you choose. Section 4 explains this in full. When you first visit the site you will see a cookie banner asking which categories you are happy to accept. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time, and nothing in this policy asks you to agree to cookies simply by continuing to browse.

For more information on how we handle personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.

2. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website.

Cookies allow websites to recognise users, remember preferences, and collect information about how visitors interact with the site.

Where this policy refers to cookies, it also covers similar technologies that store or read information on your device, such as browser local storage and tracking pixels.

Cookies do not normally contain personally identifiable information, but they may be linked to personal information we store about you.

3. Your Cookie Choices

The strictly necessary cookie is always active, because it is what lets the website remember your cookie choice. Analytics and advertising cookies are switched off until you accept them.

You can:

  • Accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or choose individual categories
  • Reopen the cookie settings at any time from the link in the website footer
  • Withdraw your consent later, which stops any further non-essential cookies being set and deletes the ones already stored

When you withdraw consent, we delete the Google Analytics and Google advertising cookies this site had already stored on your device. We cannot reach cookies that Google holds on its own domains, so to remove those as well, clear the cookies for those sites in your browser (see section 7).

Google's tags stay loaded for the rest of the page you are on, but from the moment you withdraw consent they stop reading and writing cookies. They may still send Google a request that carries no cookie and no identifier for you. From the next page you open, the tags are not loaded at all.

We keep a record of your choice so that we do not ask you again on every page. That record is itself a strictly necessary cookie, described in section 4.

4. Cookies We Use

Strictly Necessary Cookies

We set one cookie of our own. It records which categories you have accepted or rejected, so that the banner does not ask you again on every page. It lasts 12 months and holds nothing else. It is set without consent, as permitted by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Analytics Cookies

These cookies are only set if you accept analytics. We use them to understand how visitors use our website and to improve its performance.

Google Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google, which collects information such as:

  • Pages visited
  • Time spent on pages
  • Device and browser information
  • General location information
  • Website traffic sources

Google Analytics sets a small number of cookies on this website. They tell one visitor apart from another so that visits can be counted, and they keep track of your current session. They last up to two years.

This information helps us understand how users interact with the website and improve the user experience.

You can learn more about how Google processes data here:
https://policies.google.com/privacy

You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using the browser add-on available here:
https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Advertising and Conversion Cookies

The cookie banner offers an advertising category, which covers cookies that measure whether an advert led to an enquiry. No advertising tags currently run on this website, so accepting this category does not set any cookies today.

If we start running online advertising campaigns, this category will cover Google Ads conversion cookies. We will update this policy to describe them before any of them are set.

YouTube Video Embeds

Where an FAQ answer includes a video, the page embeds it from YouTube. When a page like this loads, YouTube sets cookies on your device immediately, in the same way it would if you visited youtube.com directly. This happens as soon as the page loads, not when you press play, and it happens regardless of your cookie choice, including if you have rejected all non-essential cookies.

These cookies operate the embedded video player, remember playback preferences, and measure how the video is viewed. Google may also use some of them for its own advertising purposes. They last anywhere from the end of your browsing session to several years.

We do not currently offer a way to prevent these cookies without removing the video from the page. You can learn more about the cookies YouTube sets here:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies

Google Maps Embeds

Our regional pages include an embedded Google map showing the area we cover. When a page like this loads, Google sets cookies on your device immediately, in the same way it would if you visited Google Maps directly. This happens when the map loads, not when you interact with it, and it happens regardless of your cookie choice, including if you have rejected all non-essential cookies.

These cookies operate the embedded map, remember display preferences, and measure how the map is used. Google may also use some of them for its own advertising purposes. They last anywhere from the end of your browsing session to several years.

We do not currently offer a way to prevent these cookies without removing the map from the page. You can learn more about the cookies Google sets here:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies

5. Google Tag Manager

We use Google Tag Manager to load the analytics service described above. Tag Manager is a container: it sets no cookies of its own and collects no personal data by itself, but it controls which of the tags above are allowed to run.

Tag Manager is configured so that analytics and advertising tags stay dormant until you give the matching consent.

6. Third Party Cookies

Some cookies on our website are set by third-party services:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Maps
  • YouTube

Google Analytics only sets cookies once you have given the matching consent. Google Maps is different: it sets cookies when the map loads, without waiting for your consent. Section 4 explains this in full.

These third parties may collect information about your online activity in accordance with their own privacy policies, and may process it outside the UK. We do not control how they use that information, so please refer to their own policies for details.

7. Managing Cookies in Your Browser

As well as the cookie settings on this website, you can control and manage cookies through your browser settings.

Most browsers allow you to:

  • View cookies stored on your device
  • Delete cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Block all cookies

Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain parts of our website.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in legal requirements or how our website operates.

The most recent version will always be published on this page.
